More than Petticoats~

I finished reading "More Than Petticoats: Remarkable Arizona Women" by Wynne Brown. I was fascinated to learn of these women that made a difference in Arizona History. There was Lozen who was a shield for her people. Who rode with Geronimo. Pearl Hart who was Arizona's Lady Bandit. Teresa Urrea was a "Healing Saint of Cabora". Luisa Ronstadt Espinel "Artistic Interpreter of Spanish Culture" and more who's stories are equally interesting. I wish I was this interested in History when I was still in school!

There are more of these books, "More Than Petticoats" for other states written by different authors.

Laser Chasing Kitty~

A short video of Bully chasing a laser! By the time I got the camera out, he was getting tired so I didn't get the funniest part! Sweetheart didn't seem to care about playing with it.

Raindrops

I have not seen this much rain in southern AZ in a long time. It has been raining all week long. Don't get me wrong, I love the rain and I know our state needs it! Along with the snow in the northern parts of our state. But....I sure am not looking forward to all the weeds that are going to come up afterwards! So until then, I will enjoy the patter of raindrops on the roof!

Nicky is starting to walk

Nicholas is learning to walk. Pretty soon he will be moving faster than me (with my bad knee slowing me down). I wished I would have turned the TV down, you can hear AZ weather in the video!

I love being able to watch him! It is a joy!

Elvis!

Today would have been Elvis's 75th birthday! This picture looks like the one that used to hang on the back of my door when I was a kid. I loved Elvis movies when I was a kid. I would run around dancing and singing his songs! I think I need to rent some of his movies and have an Elvis weekend!

I have to tell the funny story about the time he wrote my grandmother. When he first started to get popular my grandmother wrote him about his nasty dancing (her words) and apparently he wrote back telling her his mother was fine with his dancing and so she shouldn't be worried about it. lol

This story has been passed around our family, now I can't prove it is true because I have never seen the letter and my grandmother passed away in 1975. But my mom said she has but where the letter is my mom has no ideal.

Books of 2009 in review

I started the year with "New Moon" by Stephenie Meyer, even though I liked this book it was my least favorite of the Twilight saga! The last book of the year was "The Choice" by Nicholas Sparks. I liked this book and even shed a few tears like I always do reading Nicholas Sparks books. I ended the year by reading 89 books. A little short of my goal of 100. But this is the closest I have came to 100.

A few of my favorites from the year are:

"The Hiding Place" by Corrie ten Bloom. It is a story of her and her family risking their lives to help Jews during the World War II from Nazi concentration camps.

"Leota's Garden" by Francine Rivers. It is about a family torn apart by misunderstanding and their journey of healing.

"True Colors" by Kristin Hannah. A story about three sisters who ban together after their mother's death.

"The Wednesday Letters" by Jason F. Wright. After the death of their parents three siblings find letters written by the dad to their mother over the years.

"My Hand Came Away Red" by Lisa McKay. A group of Christian teens go to Indonesia to help build a church for the local Christians. Muslin and Christian tensions flair during their stay and the journey the teens must take to survive.

I am looking forward to 2010 and all the good books I will read this year!
